| Building the Community Through ART |
Bayview-Hunters Point will come alive with music, art, dance, and more at the second-annual ARTSFEST hosted by ART 94124 on Saturday June 6 from 11am–5pm on Fairfax Street (between Third and Phelps). The goal of the event is three-fold:
1 | To bring the growing circle of ART 94124 artists, supporters, and Bayview-Hunters Point community residents together to celebrate art.
2 | To formally commemorate the 1-year anniversary of ART 94124 and the ART 94124 GALLERY.
3 | To continue to promote ART 94124 as a catalyst for future art exhibits, community projects, and art-related events.
The fun-filled street fair will feature a great line-up of diverse music, performances, artist booths, art-related vendors and other retailers, info tables from various community groups, art activities for children, a silkscreen demonstration, chalk drawing, and ART 94124's One-Year Anniversary Benefit Exhibit in the ART 94124 GALLERY.
Additional ARTSFEST highlights, a schedule of activities, and some more details are listed below.
|
The Heavy Pedal Cyclecide Bike Rodeo is a club (based in the Bayview) of alter-bike mechanics who love bikes and building stuff. In the name of art and carnival-like merriment they will be constructing some of their “pedal powered kinetic sculpture” along Fairfax, and will be bringing some of their zany altered bikes. Their mariachi-country-punk band Los Banos will provide a lively backdrop for a portion of the festivities.

| ALL DAY! | 50 Bucks: ART 94124's One-Year Anniversary Benefit Exhibit |
In the ART 94124 GALLERY will be a One-Year Anniversary Benefit Exhibit that will open at ARTSFEST, and will be on view from June 6 through July 3. The show will be a multi-media group exhibition showcasing works of all disciplines, and will proudly salute artists that have exhibited at or are supporters of ART 94124. The pieces will be available via a silent auction for the exhibit’s duration. All pieces will start with an opening bid of an affordable $50 and all proceeds will help fund the ARTSFEST and benefit future exhibits and events at ART 94124. Acquire art and support a community-run art organization—what could be better!
|
| 11:00am | KITTITIANS REGGAE VIBES |
|
The music of ARTSFEST kicks-off with the festive sounds of Kittitians Reggae Vibes. You'll typically find them delighting the crowds at Fisherman's Wharf each Saturday, so we're lucky to have them performing at our Saturday festivities. What the tourists don't realize is that one of the members lives here in the Bayview. Come early to support a local 94124 musician and enjoy the sweets sounds of the steel drums and reggae beats. 94124 pride!
|
| 11:45am | YMCA DANCE GROUP |
| 12:15pm | THE SEASTRUNK BROTHERS |
The Seastrunk Brothers are a singing quartet of brothers who grew up in the Bayview. The men—typically in their trademark red shirts and black pants—are true performers with their smooth voices, Tempation-like steps, and tight choreography. You’re sure to recognize the songs and will definitely enjoy their showmanship.
|
| 1:00 | DANZA EZTLI XICAUHA |
Aztec dance group Danza Eztli Xicauha (which means strong blood) are traditional Aztec dancers originally from Mexico, and now reside throughout the Bay Area. Their dances maintain the traditions of the Aztec culture by honoring nature, the cosmos and unity through dance. Through their dance, they seek to bring and share positive energies with the space they perform in and all those around, in an even exchange of energies. Through their dance, they also seek to promote the arts in all communities, across all cultures and demographics.

Anyone who has followed the Bay Area Jazz scene knows Charles Unger as one of the most distinguished sax players around. Sometimes referred to as “one of San Francisco’s best jazz musicians” Charles will be joined by a number of other talented jazz players, including Sam Peoples. “The Charles Unger Experience generates exciting jazz on many different levels, where familiar genres stream forth on a collision course with improvisation to produce a new musical experience for both the artist and the audience.”

The Bullet Proof Space Travelers, comprised of an all-star cast of Bay Area DJ’s including DJ Quest, Eddie K, Eddie Def, DJ Marz, and DJ Cue, are one of the Bay Area’s longest running scratch teams, and are arguably one of the most prolific crews out there. The crew has released albums across most genres of Hip-Hop, Electro, Funk, Jazz, Punk, and Breakbeat. | Please contribute to the ARTSFEST fund |
We are a community-run, currently unfunded, organization that exists solely due to the hard work and efforts of our volunteer operating team, our growing community of exhibiting artists, and our expanding network of supporters. We are excited to build on the momentum that we’ve been able to create over the last year, and are eager to put on an even livelier and engaging ARTSFEST this year.
We need your support to make ARTSFEST possible! Please make a contribution to the ARTSFEST fund by clicking on the "donate" button above.
*Note: We do not yet have non-profit status. Though your donation is not tax-deductible your contribution is immediately serving to sustain the organization. All contributions go directly into funding current and future ART 94124 exhibits and events.
